Second opinion consulting

Reviewing pool plans for a second opinion is a paid professional service that is often referred to as third-party plan review, or independent aquatic consulting. A blueprint plan second opinion service (or pre-construction plan audit) provides an independent review of a proposed pool project design and/or plan before construction starts. Experts evaluate plans for spatial flow, cost-saving adjustments, structural feasibility, ease of use, serviceability, longevity, resilience, and code compliance to catch costly errors on paper.

Because a pool is a highly complex system involving structural engineering, hydraulics, electrical networks, and strict local codes, getting an objective eye on your pool blueprints before breaking ground can save you thousands of dollars in future rework. We can be called upon to provide additional information, quality assurance, and expertise that is relevant to a particular pool project and be consulted to provide a second opinion and double-check to make sure swimming pool plans are accurate and industry-compliant.

The power of a second opinion

When you’re planning to install a pool and looking at the feasibility of having a pool, many issues can arise. For one, the process of installing a pool costs a lot of money, creates confusion in the backyard with dust and noise, and takes time. Then the finish of the project, if not designed correctly, can leave you with new problems and regrets. You’ll want to be wise in your purchase and get the most for your resources. Different environmental locations and local jurisdiction code adoptions ranging from residential, commercial, drainage, slopes, hills, and valleys – and everything in-between all have different needs and requirements that not every contractor may be aware of or anticipate.

Many designs overlook subtle but critical flaws. Let us look it over and verify that it can meet code compliance, and that the design overall makes sense. We can detect issues that others simply don’t know to look for and this includes planning for foundation differential settlement shifts, under rated wiring, or proper drainage setups. Our second opinion design consulting can confirm findings or reveal missed red flags. We’ve saved clients thousands with timely discoveries others missed. We do not have a financial stake in building your pool. You will have an audited, ironed-out set of pool plans you can hand out to contractors or subcontractors for true apples-to-apples comparison.

  • Check the design for overall ease of use & serviceability
  • Check the materials for proper intended use
  • Verify the equipment location and components are adequate and meet minimum spec
  • Verify the design meets local code compliance
  • Check over anything else that you may have concerns about

When to get a second opinion about a pool design

Already have a pool design? Doubts about a proposed pool design can arise with an initial offering from a pool builder, or as a general allowed area defined by an architect. Basically, you would need this service when you have received some proposed initial design offering from somewhere that you may have concerns about. This could also be from a designer who wants to use a pre-designed template as your pool, as another example.

When having just a rough delineation of a pool area set forth by an architect, whether the architect or land developer has done any pool feasibility study thus far, would be a good time to contact us about getting a proposed pool design going in the first place before anything else and that gives you the advantage of working out all of these things during that initial drafting process when working with us. Then you can have a set of plans you know are sound and ready to hand out to your chosen pool contractor or GC it yourself.

When having a design and estimate from a pool contractor/builder you may want to have an unbiased set of expert eyes on a design that a pool builder is proposing to ensure you are buying into a sound project, where we can make discoveries (if any) and advise on what needs to changed, corrected, or updated.

We offer second opinion design/plan review as a service to focus directly on the question of design integrity, and this is just one aspect under the umbrella of swimming pool consulting. If the proposal of a new pool is in question then this should be done before signing or commencing the project.

We provide you with a report that includes a write-up and may also include diagrams, charts or callouts and 1 hour of consultation to discuss our findings with you, giving you insight to make a clear decision one way or another.

In many cases, after the initial consultation after a plan review, we are hired to correct the plans by reproducing them correctly, and in other cases the information is sent to the contractor to make the corrections.
